So, I am way, WAY behind on LOST posting. I will try to catch up with some more detailed analysis and theories this week. Before tonight's episode, I have just a few theories to share from the season's first two weeks. There is so much more to discuss, but I'll stick with a few main ideas for now.
About the two separate versions of the Losties that we have going now, I have two ideas. First of all, we already know that time is not linear in the LOST world. Maybe neither is space?
And second, I think that they are going to show that each person's destiny is the same. Destiny is destiny, and no matter whether the plane crashed or not, they were all going to arrive in the same place anyway.
For example, I think Kate is still going to end up with Aaron.
Also, regarding Ethan Rom. I assume you all noticed he was Claire's doctor in the hospital? However, he introduced himself as "Dr. Goodspeed." I was about to theorize that maybe he is actually Horace Goodspeed's brother, but then I looked on lostpedia and remembered that we found out last season that he actually was born Ethan Goodspeed and he is Horace Goodspeed's son. So. Nevermind. There you have it.
I think Sayid is possessed by Smokey/Man in Black. I think so is Claire. But not Locke. Smokey took Locke's form and not his body. He just shaped himself like Locke but is still himself. Sayid doesn't know he's possessed, at least not yet.
The only doubts I have about Claire are that when we saw her last season, she was in Jacob's cabin. Why would she be in Jacob's cabin if she's possessed by his nemesis? Christian Shephard was there too, pretending to be Jacob. So had Jacob abandoned that cabin a long time ago and now Smokey had taken it over? But wouldn't Richard Alpert know that, since he is in with Jacob? And he took Ben & Locke to the cabin, knowing it was Jacob's.
So are Claire and Christian Shephard possessed and/or on Smokey's side, or are they Jacob's somehow?
Lastly, I really like Dogen and Lennon. I also like that Lennon looks like John Lennon. It amuses me.

I'm finally back with a LOST post. Sorry for missing last week! There wasn't an awful lot to say last week though, since most of the episode had answers rather than questions. Except for the last ten minutes or so, which I'm sure will be covered extensively in this episode. So here we go! This isn't going to be a stream of consciousness post like the last couple, but I am writing it on commercial breaks as I'm watching so it will be in semi-chronological order.
I assumed that Sawyer's whisper to Kate on the helicopter was about his daughter, and I remembered his backstory with Cassidy and his alleged daughter, Clementine. But I had forgotten that Kate knew her, too. In case you forgot that background, as well, you can catch up here. Kate knew her story about Sawyer but Cassidy never told Kate his name. She couldn't have connected the two until Sawyer whispered to her and asked her to check on his daughter.
I love when they use Hurley to represent the audience. He lays it all out and complains that he doesn't understand what's going on and if it's like Back to the Future he doesn't actually exist. Miles' explanation is a bit complicated and cryptic still, but it's enough to believe that time is somehow co-existing. That these things happen and the Losties still experienced what they did -- they are not changing the future here, they are explaining some things that happened in the future/present.
Still super confusing, but now this explanation seems to make the most sense, because of Ben's wound. Juliet says it's near his spine and someone has to get in there to fix it. This probably is somehow related to his spinal tumor later and the surgery Jack has to perform to save him as an adult. Jack has an internal crisis about whether to save the kid because of what he knows about what he'll become.
The theory about time co-existing and meshing and all working together (being generally non-linear) is challenged by Roger's attitude. He seems to be warming up toward his son and we're seeing this softer side of Roger. But Ben would still kill him and the entire Dharma camp.
Miles and Hurley's whole argument is one of my favorite things this season. That is total homage to the fans. Those two sound just like all the groups of us who gather, or call, or email on Thursday mornings to discuss theories and argue about what's happening.
That was totally effed up with Aaron in the grocery store. That woman looked so much like Claire it was so creepy.
Still lots of role reversal in this episode. Sawyer is the responsible one, trying to do what's right to protect his people no matter what it takes. Jack is the one sitting around pouting and behaving like a child. I think Sawyer & Kate taking Ben to the Others for the help he needs will push Ben even further to an allegience to them instead of Dharma. All this is creating the relationship that Ben needs with the Others to shape his adult life on the island. Fits with Miles' theory about time being non-linear -- it's the Losties' present but it's Ben's past.
The scenes with Jack & Juliet and Sawyer & Kate were a nice little tying up of loose ends. Both made it clear that the relationship would never have worked out. Sawyer seems to have actually grown up and made a happy life with Juliet.
I assumed that Kate left Aaron with Claire's mom, but she just also promised her that she was going back to the island to find her daughter. She seemed completely sincere, so I think we're going to see Kate looking for Claire before the end of this season.
Apparently it's even more complicated than Ben building a relationship with the Others based on this experience -- sounds like wherever Richard is taking him (the hatch where the smoke monster dragged a member of Danielle's team!) is going to actually alter him somehow. But, even more importantly, that Other guy told Richard Alpert that he shouldn't do it without asking Ellie (aka Elouise Hawking) and cautioned that Charles shouldn't find out (aka Charles Widmore). Dun dun duuunnnn! So we know that in 1977 Ms Hawking and Widmore are still actively involved with the island. I still think Penny and Faraday are siblings. This connection supports my theory, I do believe.
The look on Ben's face when he saw Locke is still alive was awesome. Ben came back to the island to be judged -- is it going to be the smoke monster that judges him? Remember when Mr Eko looked into it, the smoke monster flashed people and events from his past at him.
I don't know how long this video will be up, because it appears to be a stolen bootleg from the ComicCon convention, but it's worth watching if you're a LOST fan. At the convention they played a video that is supposedly transmitted from 1977 or 1978 to 2008 through a pinhole by Marvin Candle/Pierre Chang. It seems that our Losties will eventually warn them of the purge that they know is coming. Pay close attention at the very end when the kid filming it literally turns tail and runs away from convention authorities. Hilarious.
This week's episode was more answers than questions, aside from the whole Sun & Frank & Christian situation. I think they are in present time, where present time equals 2007. So it has been three years since the Others have been living in the Dharma camp and it's all run down.
It was funny that Razdinsky tried to keep Sayid from seeing the Swan hatch building plans. Sayid knows more about that place than you do, dude.
Also, adult Ben probably is still on the other island with the rest of the Ajira Air people. Because he's in 2007 and not in 1977, he and the kid version of himself aren't in two places at once, because they're in different times.

It's LOST night again! With half-hearted apologies to those who don't watch, here we go. I'm going to do this like last time, as sort of a stream-of-consciousness post while watching. I'll update with any additional theories tomorrow.
I love that Hurley is the only Oceanic Six person that the co-pilot remembered. So the plane didn't really crash - it sort of landed! Which is why most of the flight people along with Cesar are in one place. But how did Hurley, Kate, Jack (and apparently Sayid?) get off the plane and land someplace else? Sun and Ben are still on the plane with the others.
Aww, a Sawyer and Kate reunion moment. Sawyer looks so happy to see them. Now he'll have a tough choice to make.
This explanation of Jin & Sawyer joining Dharma in the 1977 should be interesting. The whole time travel thing will be new to the Oceanic Six. Are Sawyer and Jin going to have to pretend they don't know them? Juliet and Sawyer and the rest of them have created a semi-normal life there. Quite the conflicting emotions to decide between welcoming and protecting your friends and trying to preserve your life there.
Jin is at what we know as Mikhail's (eye-patch guy) house. Can he find out from there where the plane landed? Does that computer printout track the electromagnetism thing like the one in the hatch? So there will be blips in the printouts when/where the plane landed?
I love Frank the pilot. It's so cute that he thinks people will look for them and be able to find them on the island.
Cesar saw animal cages! Now Ben knows they are on the secondary island and not the main island. Remember when he had Kate & Sawyer prisoner there, they were on a different island? Ben is sneaking away to try and get back there! Back on the island he looks 100% creepy again.
Jin won't find Sun because they're on a different island.
The baby!! It is Ethan Rom!! I knew it.
It must be strange for Jack that now Sawyer is the know-it-all in charge guy. He has the scoop and all the inside info and Jack has to listen to him.
A hostile inside the perimeter! Bet it's Sayid! Look at Jin playing the role of faithful little Dharma security officer.
Faraday has theories! On the island? Ohh, no he's already gone. I still think he took little baby Charlotte off the island to try and save her.
Ben is going to take an outrigger to the other island. But I think on the last episode they said the pilot and a woman left in the outrigger. So are all three of them going? Frank doesn't trust Ben for two seconds.
Go Sun! She is badass. Ben might have met his match.
Kate and Jack and Hurley get to see the Dharma videos live and in person now. And Marvin Candle in person! But he didn't say his name is Marvin Candle.
HA HA based on Jack's aptitude tests he will be doing janitorial work. Nice move, Sawyer.
It's nice to know that even though Sawyer is "LeFleur" now, he is still handing out nicknames.
They totally ditched Ben and left him on the smaller island. I told you Sun is all badass now.
DUDE. Sun and Frank et al are in a different period of time from the Dharma people?? There is Christian Shepard slash Jacob slash whoever he is! No reaction when they ask him where Jin is. He is all-knowing about this island and even though they're in a different time period (present time? the Dharma houses are all run-down like they haven't been lived in for a long time) he doesn't bat an eye when they ask for Jin. And he seems to know how to get them time traveled back to 1977 - "You have a long journey ahead of you." Christian Shepard knows everything.
That guy told Jack he shouldn't call Sawyer James. Weird moment of role reversal since Jack used to be the one who knew Sawyer so well. More switching places with Sawyer taking charge and Jack has no choice but to follow.
Is that kid Ben, bringing food to Sayid? This would be about the right time for Ben to have showed up to the island with his dad, 1977. And about the right age. Yup it's Ben! So if Faraday's right that you can't be in two places at once, where is the adult Ben? Is he still on the other island or not?
About the previews for next week: All bets are off and every man for himself. I love that this season is moving along with so much happening every week and so many different things going on. It's so fun to watch.

It's 10:30 and I'm just now sitting down to watch LOST. I have a good excuse though - I was wedding dress shopping with my friend Ashley. The good news is, she found one, and it's beautiful and it's perfect for her. Yay! The bad news is, it's late and Mike watched without me. So I'm afraid I'll forget things if I watch by myself and crash into bed and then try to remember everything in the morning. So I'm going to do this as I watch. These observations will be in order as we progress through the show.
STATUE!!! But only for a minute, and then they were gone from that time! Is that all we get to know about the statue?? It's HUGE!
Did the simple act of Locke leaving the island make the time changes stop? I thought at first that it was different because it was the flash from the plane but then it said Three Years Later. So! Three years DID pass on the island. In the 70s. With our Losties being Dharma people. Fascinating. This is obviously before the purge since there are so many Dharma people around and since Horace is still alive.
Jim?! Since when is Sawyer called Jim? Jim LeFleur?
Poor Faraday lost his Charlotte. I still am not convinced she's dead, though. And he said it doesn't matter what they do because whatever happened will happen with them there or not. But how can that be true if Sawyer just shot those guys?
This Amy person's husband was killed three years earlier. And now she's having Horace's kid?
OMG the killer fence! She attacked them with it!
Juliet is going to have to deliver this baby. She's working on cars because she's afraid of killing women & babies? Did this Amy person get pregnant on the island? So women used to be able to conceive and deliver babies there? But then why would they normally have the babies on the mainland?
Jin's & Sawyer's Dharma jumpsuits say Jin, Security and LaFleur, Head of Security. What codes are they talking about to search for the people from the plane? What is Jin working on?
Successful baby delivery! So Juliet isn't to blame for any of the previous deaths/complications (not that I really thought she was).
The Black Rock!! Did they make up those details about where it came from or do they actually know that's the history of it?
Ahhh!! Little baby Charlotte!! She remembered Daniel telling her not to come back to the island! Maybe in the new version of history she will remember that and not come back?
There's Richard Alpert, of the alleged hostiles, looking exactly the same age as per usual. Assumedly he will recognize the Losties when he runs into them?
Uh-oh, Sawyer broke the truce for Dharma. But ain't no sonic fence can keep out Richard Alpert. Ah, that's the Sawyer I know and love. Taking control no matter what other people want him to do. It seems Richard Alpert doesn't recognize him. No problem, let Sawyer just tell him what's up. That's right, Richard Alpert, Sawyer is just as badass as you.
No, Juliet, I don't think you are going to leave on that submarine. There's nothing in the 70s for you on the mainland. Listen to Sawyer's sappy little speech to keep her there. Aww. See, she gave him two weeks. No way she was leaving. And here we are 3 years later again. Mr. LaFleur is picking a fleur. For Juliet. Surprise. And he's all sweet and supportive and it's weird. Not very Sawyer-ish at all. More Jim-ish. He found wuv, twue wuv, and it will fowow him foweva.
Ahem. Moving on.
Horace was passed out for the birth of his son. I feel like this kid is going to be somebody we know. Karl, perhaps? Or is this too early for Karl to be born? I can't remember how old he was supposed to be. And I guess we're not entirely sure what year(s) this is.
Poor Sawyer. Trying to figure out if three years is long enough to get over somebody. He can't remember Kate anymore and thinks he's over her because she's gone and never coming back. You just wait til she shows up, Sawyer, and see how you feel then.
Telly. It's Jin. Is Jin arriving with Kate, Hurley and Jack?? Prepare to be disappointed, Juliet. Ahh there they are! Reunion? Aaaand, end of the episode. Of course.
I have only one thing to say about the previews for next week: DO NOT EFFING KILL SAYID, SAWYER. Or you will be ON MY LIST.
Ok so I know this was not filled with much in the way of theories or continuity of any kind. But at least it sums up the most important stuff and we can regroup tomorrow if you all want to talk about things I missed or possible theories. Now that it's Thursday morning and I'm fully awake and conscious, a few theories. If I had been paying attention I would have realized the 3 years on the island is 1974-1977. Faraday is present and accounted for in 74 but not in 77. Did he take Charlotte off the island in the submarine to try and save her? Three years passed on the island and on mainland but were they simultaneous? And where did 3 years of Locke's life disappear to? He left the island in 2004 and arrived in Tunisia in 2007. Unless the island time-traveled to 2007 and that's where it was when he left. But he still lost 3 years of his life somehow.
The statue might be Horus, because Egyptian god of sun (keeping in mind light/dark good/evil theme we've seen every season) and because hello, Horace! I think Horace is to Ben as Richard Alpert is to Locke. Horace was there when Ben was born and when Ben and his dad came to the island. Also the statue was holding the ankh, Egyptian fertility symbol. All this plus the fact that the island's exit is in Tunisia (2 countries over from Egypt) points to the fact that the island's origins could have been off the coast of northern Africa.
I googled "LaFleur philosopher" knowing this show's penchant for naming characters after philosophers. He came up on Amazon as an author who has written many books about Descartes. The baby born to Horace and Amy -- could be Ethan or Desmond? My money's on Ethan though, partly because Ethan's name isn't even a real name, it's an anagram for Other Man. Could it have been the purge that stopped women from being able to conceive and have babies on the island? It was Ben's fault so it was Ben's guilt that made him seek out Juliet to try and fix the problem.
For those of you who are LOST watchers, and I now know you are out there, can you please tell me whether you are rooting for Ben or Widmore? Or both? Neither? I am so confused. I was starting to trust Ben but now I am confused again. Still, even though he killed Locke, I'm not giving up on him. I just don't know what to think. Possibly neither one is inherently evil and they both believe, in their own twisted ways, that they are doing the right thing.
My observations, in whatever order they pop into my head:
*Now we can be sure there is a wide variance between passage of time on the island vs. the rest of the world. Locke met Widmore while time traveling on the island, and four days later he was booted from the island and met current Widmore in Tunisia. Where three years had passed. So at most, it was a week between when the Oceanic Six left and Locke landed in Tunisia, I'm guessing.
*However. The Oceanic Six were on the island for 108 days and if a week on the island equals three actual years, they would have been missing for 45 years. Assuming I did my math right. And I think it's safe to say they were not missing for 45 years. So was time moving so strangely on the island just because of the constant time travel?
*Tunisia is the same place where Ben landed when he was ejected. Was Widmore watching the place then, too? Does he know when Ben left and is he following him? Or did he only start watching after his people invaded the island and it backfired?
*Tunisia is also the place where Charlotte and her team were doing the archaeological dig and finding the Dharma stuff. I think she found animals as well as things marked with the Dharma logo. Can things get ejected from the island as well as people?
*I think we just saw the beginning of Jack's downward spiral. I think Locke set him off; he started the constant drinking and the psycho flying back and forth between LA and Sydney. And Locke is already dead not long after that, so Jack's downward spiral was quite quick.
*This supports the theory a friend of Mike's had relating to Jack and Kate. The Ajira Air plane had so many things closely related to the original flight -- a prisoner, a guitar, a dead body, Christian Shephard's shoes, etc. -- but Mike's friend thought of another possible similarity: Kate is the one pregnant this time on the flight. If Jack's downward spiral was very quick, then it wasn't long ago that Kate & Jack were still together. She may be pregnant with his baby.
*The Ajira plane did crash! Only somehow separately from the rest of the Losties. They disappeared from the plane and then the rest of the plane crashed. Is the plane on that secondary island where Ben took Sawyer and Kate? Where are Sun and Sayid? With the crashed plane or somewhere near Kate, Hurley & Jack?
*How did Ben find and trace Locke so quickly? Through tracking Widmore and his people or through tracking the Losties? I'm not sure what made him decide to kill Locke. It seems like it had to do either with the discovery that Jin is alive or that Ms. Hawking is the one that Locke needed help from. But it seemed like Ben was already quite familiar with her, so I'm not sure what made him change his mind.
*Is Ben dead? Were the people in that room dead or just injured? I couldn't tell. But I'm hoping just injured.
*Caeser, the only other guy in first class, the one who seems to be taking charge in our new round of Losties from Ajira Air, I don't trust him. He was very quick to take charge and move right into the Dharma station. Something isn't right about him. But he did seem genuinely confused about what happened on the plane. I don't know what to think about that guy.
*What is Sayid doing in Dominican Republic? Is he really just trying to escape Ben and do some good or is there some ulterior motive there? And how does he end up back in LA when everybody is gathering together again?
*Locke visiting Hurley at the mental institution was hilarious -- Hurley just took it in stride and assumed Locke had died. He only freaked out when he thought he wasn't talking to a dead guy. He was very astute to figure out immediately who Abaddon was. But Locke didn't seem surprised and actually had remembered him from when he was an orderly in the hospital and told him to go on the walkabout.
*These new plane crash people (I don't know what to call them - Losties II?) said that the pilot (Frank Lapidus) left in one of the boats with a woman. Do we think that woman was Sun? She is missing thus far from the whole scenario.
*I think I forgot to mention last week that I now have a solid theory on where Ben was before he finally made it to the plane. If you look closely, behind the pay phone from which he calls Jack, you can see water and boats. Also he told Jack that he had to keep a promise to an old friend. Penny is on a boat. Ben promised Widmore that he would kill his daughter in exchange for Widmore killing Alex. I'm certain that Ben went after Penny. I don't know if she's dead or not, but I think this will be Desmond's motivation to return to the island.
*Where does Ms. Hawking's allegiance lie? With Ben? Widmore? The island? It certainly seems she has close ties with all involved and maybe her job is to advocate what's best for the island. Which certainly seems like something Jacob would do.

My readership tends to be highest on Wednesdays and Thursdays since I started doing that, and I am aware of a bunch of you, some I know in real life and some I don't, that know about my website and also watch LOST. But I have had mostly negative feedback about the posts, and I don't want to keep writing about it if nobody cares. I know many of you never comment, so tell me what you honestly think through the poll - should I keep writing about LOST or not?

Tonight's LOST analysis! Mike helped me hash out a few of these things. Once again, I'll update tomorrow if there are any dazzling new theories during my morning LOST meeting.
*Ajira Airways! Did the entire plane crash or didn't it? The long boats on the beach during Sawyer, Faraday, etc.'s island time travels had a water bottle with that airline's name on it in one of the boats. Maybe when the light flashed on the plane, they were within the island's time travel radius, and so the relevant people were somehow yanked off the plane and put back to the island.
*Where are Sun and Sayid and Ben and Locke's casket? How far away did they land? Are they with the rest of the plane, if it crashed?
*I'm duly impressed that Ben somehow got everybody to go back, with the exception, of course, of Aaron.
*They were pretty close to the original group - Locke's dead body with Jack's dad's shoes on it. The 5 adult survivors. Even a prisoner in place of Kate -- how did Sayid manage that?! With Ben's help or not?? And Hurley had a guitar, like Charlie.
*How much do I love Hurley that he bought all the seats to keep the people on standby safe?!
*LaTreash came up with a theory this afternoon (before the episode, even) that the reason for Locke's death was so that he would get back to the island, and then follow in Christian Shepard's footsteps. Possibly Christian Shepard is inhabited by Jacob, or by the black smoke?
*Did Kate send Aaron with Claire's mom to keep him safe while she went back to the island? Is Claire (if she's alive) going to be pissed that she doesn't get Aaron back? At first I thought Kate left him with Sun. But obviously not.
*What was Ben's favor he was doing before they leave? Does it have something to do with Walt? Who beat him up? The only known enemy he has on the mainland is Widmore, as far as we know, or as far as I can remember right now. Could someone (Sayid? Ms. Hawking?) have been trying to stop him from getting on this flight with everyone else?
*Have we seen Jack's grandfather before? Or do I just recognize him from being in something else?
*I'm thinking Penny and Faraday might be siblings, or maybe half-siblings. We know Widmore (Penny's dad) and Ms. Hawking (Faraday's mom) knew each other. They were on the island at the same time in the 50s. And we don't know who Penny's mom is and we don't know who Faraday's dad is.
*Ben told Jack his mom taught him how to read. Which is interesting because his mom died giving birth to him. Possibly this points to his lying tendencies? Maybe he is still lying even more than I thought and I shouldn't trust him. But I kind of do.
*Jin is working for Dharma?? How did that happen? How long have they been in that time period? Exactly when did three years go by on the island, since it seems like no time at all (at least in present time) has passed. Or have three years not gone by on the island? I am SO CONFUSED by time.
*Did you all notice the date on Ms. Hawking's photograph of the island? September 23, 1954. Exactly 50 years (minus one day) before the Losties' plane crashed on the island. Is it possible that date also could have coincided with Hurley's mental institution friend hearing the numbers being transmitted while on duty in the South Pacific?
*The island isn't finished with Desmond. I knew it! But how is he going to end up back there? Will Penny or her dad have something to do with it? Will Penny recognize Ms. Hawking as her mom if she sees her? I tend to believe Ms. Hawking whenever she talks so I'm pretty sure Desmond will end up back there. Also I wasn't sure if he'd recognize her from his past but he definitely did.
*That guy who wished Jack condolences about his dead friend at the airport was also on flight 316. I'm thinking he might be involved somehow.
*I still want to know who Jill the butcher lady is. How old do we think she is? Is it possible that she's Annie, Ben's childhood sweetheart (Charlotte's mom??), is she old enough for that?
Tell me what you think! Am I right? Did I miss anything major?

A few updates from discussion with LaTreash & Jamie this morning:
*Did the island have to be in the right place and the right time when the plane flew overhead? Does that mean we're now in present time? Of course, there was a white flash like the time travel flashes when they were on the plane, so who knows.
*Jin might not be involved with Dharma at all. When you time travel, your possessions travel with you. So if, for some reason, they found the Dharma stuff, changed their clothes and had the van with them, those things would travel through time also.
*I forgot to mention last night about Frank Lapidus! I almost didn't recognize him all clean-shaven and commercial pilot looking. I feel like he ends up back on the island too, right? "We're not going to Guam, are we?"
*A thought I had totally unrelated to this episode: Remember the girl from Eko's flashbacks, the one who drowned and died and then came back to life? Her name was Charlotte. Foreshadowing that our current Charlotte died but will come back to life?
Yesterday after work, my friend Ashley and I went for massages, then to dinner where I had the best burger I've had in quite some time, then we crashed on her couch and drank yummy hot chocolate with lots of marshmallows before watching LOST. So, yeah, I was not feeling as analytical as I usually do. I have a few observations though:
*I still think Charlotte is Ben's daughter. Even more likely since she grew up on the island as a little kid. But why doesn't Faraday remember her? Maybe he doesn't know the child Charlotte is the same as this Charlotte?
*Where is Claire and why wasn't she with Christian Shepard still? Is she dead or isn't she?
*Why didn't Ben know that Ms. Hawking/Ellie/Elouise is Faraday's mom? He seemed to know everything about the freighter people. Also I was totally right that Elouise on the island (little blond who had Faraday at gunpoint near the bomb) is the same as Ms. Hawking is the same as Faraday's mom.
*Sun was going to bring back Aaron to Korea with her. WTF?
*Did you all notice the music box on the beach? The one Sayid later fixed for Rousseau which is why she let him go?
*I am totally lost about time again. I thought I had a handle on how it works but now I am so confused again.
Okay, I'm lazy today, that's all I've got. Now you tell me what you think. These are my other recent LOST posts. Also go visit Okay Seriously to see what she wrote about the episode last night while watching it.

Has your head finished exploding yet? Okay then, let me explain. (First read my post below from last night if you haven't already. I'll wait.) Also let me give credit where credit is due - Jamie first suggested it as a possibility and then the two of us hashed it out to figure out whether it's possible. And it totally is. We are figuring Ben is around 50, right? Give or take a little. And Charlotte, they've said her age; I can't remember it exactly, but it was somewhere in the mid to late 20's range I think. So if she was born and/or spent all this time on the island, that would be during Ben's time on the island in Dharma.
Ben had his childhood sweetheart, Annie, and if I remember correctly he killed her along with all the other Dharma people. But maybe they first had Charlotte. And he sent her away from the island to keep her safe when he killed everyone else. Maybe he left her with Richard Alpert and the Others, since they were in on the whole mass killing of Dharma people with him.
It would explain why he knows everything about her past and couldn't believe it when he saw her. And he told that made-up story about her childhood. She's never admitted anything about her past, she doesn't talk about it. We just know that she was digging in the desert for Dharma stuff so she was aware of the island on some level. But does she know of/remember her history on the island? Or does she just know about it and about Ben because of what Matthew Abaddon told her?
Also - and this is my biggest defense of this theory - he stole Alex from Danielle to be his own daughter. I'm thinking she was a replacement daughter because he couldn't have Charlotte there.

Posted by Amy Labels: LOSTSo. DUDE. LOST is out of control. First of all, Jin is still alive! And - he was inside the radius of the time travels! So the wreckage Locke and co. just found on the beach that looks fresh and has French printed on it is Danielle's boat. Now we know we are 16 years in the past - from 2004. So if we're considering this 2007 (are we?), then it's 19 years ago. And Danielle meets Jin. So does she recognize him in 2004 when the plane crashes on the island? Does she ever say anything weird to him or does she think she knows him? I might have to go back to other seasons to try and find out. Other observations, in the order they pop into my head:
*Whose long boat from some other airplane were they rowing? That doesn't make sense? There were no other commercial planes that crashed on/near that island, as far as we know. And WHO was shooting at them? Juliet says it wasn't her Others, and I think I believe her. So when in time was that?
*Kate, helping Claire deliver Aaron. I wonder if they noticed sounds or people in the woods at the time. And can Sawyer etc. be in more than one place at a time? Can they run into themselves? I thought last week or the week before Faraday told them they couldn't be in more than one place at a time.
*I think we can be sure the baby at the beginning of the first episode this season was Miles. If the nose bleeds have something to do with exposure to the island, Charlotte must have been born there too since her nose bled first, way before Miles' nose did. Or else maybe she just spent her whole childhood there. Miles must not have since he thinks he wasn't ever there before. But is he Marvin Candle's son or not?
*Will Locke's nose bleed before Sawyer's? Does his contact with Richard Alpert as a kid count as exposure to the island?
*Ok, back to the mainland. Ben keeps driving around that van, is Locke's coffin in it or is the coffin still with the butcher lady?
*I was totally sure Claire's mom was trying to take Aaron away. They fooled me.
*The lawyer guy creeps me out. And not just because he was the dad on My So-Called Life. I don't know what his deal is but I think he's doing more for Ben than just trying to make sure Aaron and Kate make it back to the island with everyone else. Ben must have something to do with him representing Claire's mom, right? And he's obviously in on what's going on with Hurley.
*Hurley in a bright orange prison jumpsuit.
*Who sent Sun that package? Are we still assuming she's working for Widmore? Is she going to change her mind and go along with Ben etc. when Ben tells her that Jin is still alive?
*HOW does Ben know that Jin is still alive? Who is communicating with him from the island? Is it whoever the butcher lady said contacted her and told her everything is on schedule.
*Will Locke try to move the island again like Ben did to try and make it stop time traveling? Will it work? Is it still 2004 on the island? I can't figure it out and if Locke leaves the island and ends up dead (or is he?) three years later, is he off the island and alive all that time? Or does crazy island time make him leave the island in 2004 and land in mainland 2007? My head hurts.
*Does Sun's baby have to go back to the island, too? Since Sun was pregnant with her when they left, is she required to go back to make everything right again, too? And if she doesn't go back, will she ever meet her dad?
*Kate totally will succumb to what Jack wants her to do now because he is all shaved and clean and looks like her island Jack again.
*I'm sure I am missing things but it's late. And I'm tired. So if we have any revelations in the morning, when I have my Thursday morning LOST recap and analyzation meeting, I'll let you know.
Also, one note from last week since I didn't post about LOST. The girl on the island, who was with Richard Alpert and then took Daniel to the bomb? She's his mom. Her name is Ellie and Ms. Hawking's name is Elouise. So. Daniel was held at gunpoint by his mom, who hadn't had him yet. And, ok, maybe more than one note from last week, but I think we now have something we can call a flash-forward-back. Because Locke just told Richard Alpert that he would be born 2 years later in 1956. Which is how Richard Alpert comes to find him when he's a kid and gives him those objects to choose from, remember? I think it was 2 seasons ago. But at that point Locke hadn't gone back in time to tell Richard Alpert when he would be born, and so that couldn't have happened yet. It couldn't have been a straight-up flashback. So I'm calling it a flash-forward-back.
And. Last thing, I promise. I would just like to gloat for one second about being totally right that the guy who attacked Sawyer and Juliet was Charles Widmore. He was expecting to become the island leader and somehow he got ousted by Ben and/or Locke and/or Jacob and/or Richard Alpert. But he still thinks it's his and he's trying to get back there, which is what his problem is now.

I am going to post Ireland pictures later today but my head is going to explode if I don't get this stuff out. For you all who don't watch, sorry I'm going to bore you, but you should probably just give in and watch it.
To all my fellow Losties -- HOLY CRAP. I have so many questions and ideas and theories I don't even know where to start. So I think I will just list them. And in the interest of full disclosure, some of these things came from in-depth discussion with LaTreash and Jamie so they aren't all entirely mine. (*Edited to add: Mike pointed out that we discussed LOST this morning as well and so he would like it noted that he had a part in a few of these ideas, too.*)
*During Hurley's little speech telling his mom the truth, did anyone else get brand new insight to how we sound to people who don't watch the show? We must sound like complete crazy people.
*Who are the people trying to kill Sayid? Are they Widmore's people? Ben's people? Someone else?
*I'm pretty sure Sun is working for Widmore now. Is he threatening her or is she on his side now? Also why is her kid still a newborn? She should be at least two, because Aaron is about three and they left the island three years ago.
*Is Charlotte dead? All the dead people's noses bleed on the island. But Desmond's nose also bled last season when he was time traveling and he didn't have a constant. So maybe she just needs a constant, since she's completely alone and has no family or anything.
*Daniel's mom is Ms. Hawking, right? Crazy jeweler/time travel/church basement physicist lady? I mean, he told Desmond to look for his mom in Oxford but that was at least three years ago, I think. And is she really sitting in a church basement plotting where/when the island is/was/will be? CRAZY.
*Timelines are now even more messed up. Who even thought that was possible? So now we have non-island present time, which seems to be about 2007, plus non-island flashbacks and flashforwards. And now we have island flashforwards and flashbacks, and island time travel, AND island present time. But WTF? When is island present time? Is it 2004 when the Oceanic 6 left and the rest of them started flinging around time and space? Or is it 2007, same as non-island present time? I don't feel like I know when we actually are, nevermind where we are.
*At first I thought the island was only traveling through time. But we did see it disappear from the water via the view from the helicopter, so I guess it's traveling through space, too. I was wondering how it knows not to land on a boat or something when it moves -- but guess what, maybe it doesn't. Maybe that's how the slave ship Black Rock (remember from first season, with the dynamite and Dr. Arzst?) got there. Maybe it didn't land on the island, maybe the island landed on IT.
*Neil should not have given Sawyer his shirt. I like Sawyer better without a shirt. Also, WTF is up with Neil? I knew from the second he opened his annoying mouth that he was never going to live through this episode. And who is shooting the giant balls of fire at them?
*Speaking of annoying people not living through episodes, remember Nikki and Paulo? The morons from season 3 who got bit by a spider that paralyzed them and then the other Losties thought they were dead so they buried them, which killed them so then they actually did die. That went down as the worst episode in Lost history because it was a total diversion and made no sense and Nikki and Paulo were annoying. Even the producers came out and agreed it was a mistake.
*BUT -- but, now stay with me here. In last night's episode, they hinted at the fact that Locke might not be entirely dead. Ben avoided the question when the butcher shop lady asked him. Hurley's dad was watching TV and the show that came on right before Hurley got there was Exposé. Exposé is the show that Nikki was acting in during the flashbacks in the Nikki Paulo episode. The episode was actually called Exposé. SO - what if that was a hint? Maybe Locke isn't really dead, he's just been bitten by the spider that paralyzes you completely for a couple days.
*I am thinking that the producers agreeing that the Nikki/Paulo episode was a mistake might have been a ruse. They had it planned into the storyline the whole time and just wanted us to be misled and think it wasn't relevant. I know Richard Alpert told Locke he had to die, but maybe Locke found a way around it and he just had to make people think he died.
*Is Marvin Candle's baby Miles? It would be about the right timeline and it would explain why Miles has such weird powers and is so in tune with the island.
*Did your head almost explode when Daniel was in the room with Marvin Candle when he discovered the wheel that moves the island? Does Daniel not age like Richard Alpert, or was he just time traveling?
*How did Richard Alpert know that Locke wouldn't know him the next time he saw him? Did he know the island would be going back in time and not forward?
*Did Daniel tell them that things can't happen when they're time traveling if they didn't happen originally because it's the truth? Or because he was lying to them in hopes that they didn't screw anything up too badly to alter the future?
*When exactly were we when Sawyer and Juliet got attacked by those guys who don't appear to be Dharma or Others or Losties? How long ago was that? Is it possible that the guy was Charles Widmore? It might explain why he's so obsessed with the island and trying to find it again. Maybe he used to be in charge of it like Marvin Candle and like Ben, and then he had to leave (like Ben?) and couldn't find it again and so now he's obsessed and wants it back. Maybe Penny was born on the island and she has some crazy connection to it, too, she just doesn't know it.

I was in Florida until Monday wearing flip-flops and walking on the beach and participating in our goddaughter Maria's christening. It's a short work week. Yesterday President Obama (my first president -- the first one I have helped vote into office) was sworn in and I had fun watching the festivities on TV. Last night I had the first wind ensemble rehearsal of the semester and found out we are playing music from Candide on our end-of-semester concert, as well as doing another West Side Story concert. This morning Mike and I finally went to the gym in an effort to start exercising regularly again. After work today we are probably going out to dinner for restaurant week.
And, and, AND -- drumroll, please -- tonight is the season premiere of LOST. Can you tell I'm excited?? Thanks to my very talented friend LaTreash for designing my new header in celebration of the season premiere! We can barely contain ourselves in anticipation of tonight's episode.
